Indian Hockey dies… again!

After India’s grossly poor, uninspired and gutless performance in the Hockey World Cup, I want to repeat what I had written just over an year ago…

In Affectionate Remembrance of

Indian Hockey,

which died at Mönchengladbach,

on 12th September, 2006.

Deeply lamented by a small circle of
sorrowing friends and acquaintances.

R.I.P

N.B. - The body will be cremated and the
ashes taken to K.P.S. Gill’s residence.

Note: For those who don’t know the context of this funerary message, do check here.

Absolutely! … that’s my point too! But then you just have to look across the border at Pakistan. Pakistan’s former PM Jamali is the PHF chief. His appointment was made by Shaukat Aziz, the current Pakistani PM. So the malaise of politicians infesting the sports federations is rampant there too. But look at the state of Pakistani hockey today! It seems to be many rungs higher than India. True they have suffered some shock losses recently. But over the last decade and more, Pakistan has acquitted itself much better than India has on the international hockey scene.

So, apparently, the fault lies not merely in the fact that politicians and bureaucrats run the sports federations in India, but somewhere else!
