Success story of a sexist

Now that Venugopal Dhoot (MD, Videocon) has managed to woo Daewoo Electronics, Indian media will no doubt go nuts in hyping up the man till he seems like the best thing since vadapav.

But this is the same person who has been known to favour gender discrimination citing “Indian traditions”.

But Samir, Everyone has their failings too. I trust a lot of great men must have had their own failings in their private lives. Not that I’m saying that this Dhoot is a great man or anything - but really what I mean is, Vijayak Dhoot’s success in business and his views on patriarchy are disjoint.

Saket>> Oh sure! I am not grudging him his success. His success is to be commended. May there be more Indian businessmen like him. But saying that his views are merely patriarchical is a gross understatement. His views are totally sexist and gender discriminatory.

Of course, he made them as a private individual, but he’s an influential individual. Also, he chose to generalize his views to cover women in general… and that too with “Indian traditions” as the justification. And that’s what was very wrong!

You see, I really don’t care if his daughter gets to run Dhoot’s business or not! :-)

Very right Saket.
I fully agree to your statement about Dhoot.
Being a influential individual, the statements made by him are certainly discriminating.
