Thinking aloud on Black Marketing
The other day, at the Bloggers’ Meet, someone (I don’t quite remember who) took a quick poll to see how many people supported ‘black market’. I think a couple of us raised their hands to show that they were pro-’black market’. The reason that was put forward was that the buyer should be able to freely determine what he wants to buy.
Fair enough, I say!
But isn’t ‘black market’ a way to evade the regulations (which are invariably unjust and illogical) imposed by government? So, shouldn’t you actually protest against the regulation itself, rather than supporting something that circumvents that regulation?
Or is the circumvention itself, an act of protest against the regulation?

Happy 2005!!
Here’s wishing you all, a very happy 2005!!
Take with you the best of what 2004 gave you and leave behind what 2004 tried to spoil.
For those who reflect on the past year and see failures, here are a few lines by Thomas Hood to welcome the new year by,
And ye, who have met with Adversity’s blast,
And been bow’d to the earth by its fury;
To whom the Twelve Months, that have recently pass’d
Were as harsh as a prejudiced jury -
Still, fill to the Future! and join in our chime,
The regrets of remembrance to cozen,
And having obtained a New Trial of Time,
Shout in hopes of a kindlier dozen.

R.I.P. Rodney
A girl phoned me the other day and said… Come on over, there’s nobody home. I went over. Nobody was home.
– Rodney Dangerfield, 1921-2004
Rodney ‘I don’t get no respect’ Dangerfield, master of one-liners and stand-up comic par excellence passed away at the age of 82 when complications arose after a heart valve replacement surgery.
He will be missed by all those who’ve come to enjoy his brand of self-deprecating, acid-tongued, put-down humour that almost always targetted himself.
You can find a wealth of his quotes on this Google search.

Mushisms!!
Pakistan’s military dictator (of course he’s a dictator… don’t kid yourselves into thinking otherwise!) Pervez Musharraf gave a speech to expat Pakistanis in Washington. In parts, it was a speech to rival anything that George W. Bush could ever come up with!
Asserting “we speak better English than the Indians,” Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf said that the trend of outsourcing jobs to India from the US was soon going to change.
…
He urged them (Pakistanis) to stand up for Pakistan and counter criticism, “even if it (criticism) is right”
…
Musharraf also promised to build the world’s tallest building in Pakistan.
..
“We have neglected culture in favour of agriculture,” he said.
But then he also mentioned some very sensible things like…
“We must reject terrorism and extremism because we alone will be the losers if we don’t,” he said.
Well… I hope he meant it. Though I wouldn’t bet on it!
