Mumbai Taxi and Autorickshaw tariff cards
If you’re in Mumbai and are worried about the taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers fleecing you by charging you based on wrong/fictional tariff cards, then you can carry the official/authorized tariff cards for taxis and auto-rickshaws. Of course, that doesn’t stop you from being fleeced due to tampered meters and/or round-about routes. ;-)
Update: If you are looking for auto-rickshaw tariffs for the city of Pune, then the rule of thumb at the moment is to multiply the meter reading by 8 and add 2 to the product to get the fare payable i.e. Fare Payable = (Meter Reading * 8) + 2. So if the meter reading is 2.50, then you will have to pay (2.50 * 8) + 2 = Rs 22. But be aware that this is applicable only within Pune city limits. Outside the city limits, the auto-rickshaw drivers are a law unto themselves and unfortunately the police are more or less impotent in tackling the auto-rickshaw mafia.
Update: [01/08/2009] The Mumbai taxi fare tariff has increased from August 1, 2009. The minimum fare (for the first 1.6Km) is Rs. 14. Every subsequent kilometer will add Rs. 9 to the fare. The new tariff card has now been uploaded on the Mumbai traffic police website.
